HaileyburyAI Search Visibility Strategy
Eighty-four percent of Haileybury’s search visibility comes from families who already know the name. This is a plan to win the ones who do not.
“Saigon Digital transformed how Ski.com shows up online. Beyond rebuilding our platform, they helped us rethink our entire search and AI visibility strategy. The rules of school discovery have fundamentally changed
Search Has Evolved. Your Strategy Must Too.
Parents are no longer just typing queries into Google and scrolling through ten blue links. They are asking ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews for direct recommendations. The question has shifted from “What are the top search results?” to “Which school does AI recommend?”
This is a fundamental shift. Traditional SEO gets you ranked. AI Search Visibility gets you recommended, cited, and positioned as a trusted authority.
Traditional SEO
- Focus on rankings & traffic
- Keyword stuffing & backlink volume
- Compete for 10 blue links
- Brand-dependent visibility
- Static content pages
AI Search Visibility
- Focus on recommendation & authority
- Structured content clarity & entity definition
- Be cited as the trusted source
- Non-branded keyword coverage
- Clear positioning language AI can parse
AI systems decide what to recommend based on: structured content clarity, strong entity definition, consistent authority signals, non-branded keyword coverage, and clear positioning language. Schools that do not deliberately build these signals will simply not exist in AI-generated answers.
The Queries Parents Are Asking AI
These are real queries families use when researching schools through AI platforms.
“Best UK boarding school for an international family near London”
The shortlist query. Names no school, describes a need. This is where Haileybury is currently absent.
“Should my child take the IB or A Levels?”
The decision query. Whoever answers it well gets recommended alongside the answer. You offer both and say nothing.
“How does guardianship work for a UK boarding school?”
The logistics query, asked by every overseas family. Currently answered entirely by agencies, not by schools.
“What does boarding at a Hertfordshire school actually cost?”
The money query. Your fees page exists but ChatGPT cannot open it, so the number comes from elsewhere.
“Which schools still have Sixth Form places for September?”
The timing query. High intent, low competition, and nobody has claimed it.
“Tell me about Haileybury”
The branded query, the one you already win. It is also the only kind you win, and no family asks it before they have heard your name somewhere else.
The Critical Window
Schools that adapt early will dominate recommendations. Schools that delay will lose visibility silently. Unlike traditional search where you can see your rankings drop, AI visibility loss is invisible · you simply stop being recommended, and you never know the families you lost.
Where Are You Now?
Current digital presence for Haileybury
Haileybury · Digital Snapshot
A snapshot of where Haileybury stands today across key organic search metrics.
You are not being found. You are being confirmed.
Haileybury has 585 pages and 328 news posts, and ranks for 276 keywords. But 33 of those keywords carry 84% of the traffic, and every one of them contains the word “Haileybury”. The families who already know you find you easily, exactly as they should. The families who do not know you yet are reaching you through five generic Hertfordshire terms worth roughly 354 visits a month. That is the entire top of the funnel.

Authority is not the problem
Haileybury has more ranking keywords than any school on this list and the third strongest link profile. Berkhamsted, on lower authority and a smaller site, pulls 51% more organic traffic. The gap is not reputation, budget or link equity. It is that the site was never built to be read by a machine deciding which school to recommend.
AI Platform Visibility: Haileybury
We tested Haileybury’s visibility across the 4 major AI platforms that parents now use to research schools.
Six Real Queries. Two Appearances.
We asked leading AI platforms the same questions parents ask. Here’s where Haileybury appeared · and where it didn’t.
Appeared as the top recommendationAppeared
Appeared, alongside the county directoriesAppeared
Harrow, Westminster, Eton, Brighton College and Wycombe Abbey named. Haileybury absent.Absent
Brentwood, Westbourne, Malvern, Bryanston and Oakham named. Haileybury absent, despite this being your headline offer.Absent
Westbourne, Sevenoaks and St Clare’s named. Sevenoaks was credited for offering both A Level and IB.Absent

The pattern is the finding
Haileybury appears whenever the question already contains the answer, either the name itself or “Hertfordshire”. It disappears the moment a parent describes what they are looking for rather than who. That is the difference between being findable and being recommended, and it is the exact shape of the 84% branded split. Query four is the one worth sitting with: offering both A Level and the IB is your headline differentiator, and five other schools were named instead.
Three Things Standing Between Haileybury and the Shortlist
These are the highest-impact issues we identified holding Haileybury back from AI search visibility.
01 · ChatGPT cannot read your website
GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot and ChatGPT-User are all refused with a 403 at your server, on every page tested. Google, Bing, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini are let straight through. It is not in your robots.txt, it is a Varnish rule at your hosting layer, so nobody chose it as a marketing decision. We tested Berkhamsted, Brighton College and Haileybury Melbourne the same way. All three are fine. This one is specific to you, and because it lives at the hosting layer a new website will not clear it on its own.
02 · Six schools share your name, and you are not the one being identified
Hertford, Melbourne, Darwin, Almaty, Astana and Malta, plus the Tianjin campus. Your site carries no machine-readable record stating that Haileybury is a school, in Hertford, in England. Haileybury Melbourne’s does, and it names Melbourne in the first two words of its homepage title. On lower domain authority than yours, it now attracts roughly three times your organic search traffic. They are not better known. They are legible.
03 · There is no engine creating demand
Your discovery visibility rests on five generic Hertfordshire keywords. There is nothing on the questions that actually decide an international placement: IB against A Level, guardianship, flexi boarding, sixth form entry, boarding within reach of London. Your blog holds three articles, last touched in January. For contrast, Haileybury Melbourne ranks first for “explicit teaching”, a pure pedagogy term with 1,900 monthly searches. They publish. You announce.
How Do We Get There?
A phased strategy to dominate AI search for Haileybury
The 5-Phase Plan
Each phase builds on the last, creating compounding authority for Haileybury.
Unblock and identify
- Clear the OpenAI 403 with your host and confirm with live crawler tests
- Publish School, Organization, PostalAddress and GeoCoordinates schema
- Publish llms.txt so assistants read a summary you wrote
- Force recrawl and baseline citations across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and AI Overviews
Fix the pages that carry money
- Rewrite titles, descriptions and heading structure across admissions, fees, scholarships, bursaries, international and sixth form
- Resolve the six competing H1s on the homepage
- Add FAQ schema to the questions parents actually ask
- Separate the Hertford entity from Haileybury Education Group so the name stops competing with itself
Build non-branded demand
- Own the decision questions: IB against A Level, guardianship, flexi boarding, sixth form entry, boarding near London
- Publish the explanatory content assistants cite, not announcements
- Target the international and agent-led queries you currently have no presence on
Strengthen third-party authority
- Correct and enrich the school guides and directories AI models lean on
- Build citations that reinforce Hertford as the primary Haileybury entity
- Protect the Top 10 IB positioning in the places it is currently missing
Measure what admissions cares about
- Monthly reporting in enquiries, open morning bookings, prospectus requests and applications
- Split by source and by market, not just rankings
- Tracked AI query set, reported as citations won and lost

AI Search Visibility Package
Two ways to start. Pick the one that fits your budget cycle.
| Option A · Launch Foundation | Option B · Growth Partnership | |
|---|---|---|
| Investment | £3,800 fixed, one-off |
£3,200 / month rolling |
| Duration | 8 weeks | Rolling monthly, 6-month minimum |
| Best if | You want the foundations right before and immediately after the new site ships, with no ongoing commitment. | You want the foundations fixed and the discovery gap closed, with monthly reporting into admissions. |
| Includes | Phases 1 and 2 in full: the OpenAI unblock, entity schema, llms.txt, admissions metadata, homepage structure, entity separation, and a baseline AI citation report you keep. | Everything in Option A inside the first two months, then Phases 3 to 5: non-branded content, international and agent-led queries, third-party authority, and monthly admissions reporting. |
| What it moves | Makes Haileybury readable and correctly identified. Stops the losses. | Makes Haileybury recommended. Grows the top of the funnel. |
| Converts | The full £3,800 is credited against your retainer if you move to Option B within 60 days. | · |
Option A fixes what is broken. Option B is the one that grows enrolment enquiries, because the 84% branded split is a content problem and content compounds rather than completes. Neither option is a menu: the phases depend on each other, and removing one does not make the rest cheaper, it makes them less effective. Terms: rolling monthly with no lock-in beyond the stated minimum, invoiced in week three for the following month, 30 days notice to stop at any point after the minimum term.
The ROI Perspective
At £59,460 a year, a single additional boarding pupil staying from Year 9 to the end of Sixth Form returns £297,300. A full year of Option B is roughly one eighth of what that single pupil returns, and costs less each month than one boarding pupil pays in fees.
A Harder Market Than Five Years Ago
Why the top of the funnel matters more now than it did.
The Window Is Now
One additional boarding pupil who joins in Year 9 and stays to the end of Sixth Form is £297,300 of fee income at current rates. Option A costs less than one month of a single pupil’s fees.
